It doesn’t only happen to tourists. If you go outside in any town or village in the Netherlands, you’ll see the struggle to dress appropriate for the weather conditions. Honestly, it often happens that one of us is going outside in a big winter jacket finding ourselves sweating because the temperature is higher than expected.
As the weather might differ a lot in the Netherlands, it is recommended to pack for multiple weather conditions. So, let’s set things straight for once and for all. Here is a list of what you should bring on your trip to the Netherlands.
- Layers, layers, layers
To prevent any unnecessary sweating you can go outside wearing layers. Pack a thin and a thick pair of jeans, t-shirts and vests. For the “really hot days” you should bring a nice dress, midi skirt or a good set of shorts. Also, bring a “between seasons” jacket. A jacket appropriate for fall and spring. The Dutch temperature is often mild, so a jacket like this should cover most of the weather conditions.
Man’s not hot? Put on your vest and jacket. Man’s hot? Put them off.
- Umbrella or Poncho
The Netherlands is known for some unexpected showers, this is why we provide a poncho during our tours on rainy days. Of course you won’t be touring with us during your whole stay, so bring a good umbrella or poncho yourself as well. If you consider to buy a rain jacket, carefully check the label to see if it is water resistant instead of water proof for a couple of hours.
This shouldn’t be surprising. Dutch landscapes and cities have so much beautiful sights to offer that you probably don’t even have the time to put your camera down.
- Practice your biking skills
This one you can’t pack. If you’re up for a bike ride it isn’t a bad idea to practice your biking skills. The Dutch are raised with riding a bike so a few practice rides to keep up with them is a great idea.
- Leave an empty space in your suitcase
Maybe you like Dutch Design as much as we do, then you might want to bring some nice stuff home for your interior. Fat chance that you are going to fall in love with the local stroopwafels or cheese. Or that you like our rain wear brands so much that you want to expand your own rain wear collection. Either way, leave an empty space to bring how some great souvenirs.
