Anyone who wants to see the exposition about Ed van der Elsken in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam is a little too late. But, fortunately, this photographer made a lot of material that you can enjoy online. Not sure who this man is? Ed van der Elsken is one of the first Dutch street photographers who enjoyed photographing remarkable personalities. Often he tried to make a quick shot while making contact with the portraited persons. Sometimes he liked a more staged photo.

The big break-through of mister van der Elsken was in 1956. During this year he made a photo novel about his own life called a Love History in Saint Germain des Prés. The bohemians wandering around Paris were his inspiration to make this beautiful movie with all kinds of different perspectives.

If you have 10 minutes, watch and be amazed by this short documentary Camera in Love. Enthusiasts will tell you all about van der Elskens’ work and you can see some yourself.
