We’re almost at the end of the year, counting the days until New Year’s Eve. A lot happened in our world the past year. Time to look back and share the most remarkable Dutch news items of 2017. What was remarkable in your country?

1. ARJEN LUBACH WINS THE GOLDEN TELEVIZIER RING

This probably doesn’t ring a bell but this tv-show host became very popular in the Netherlands. Arjen Lubach and his team are worldwide known for their ‘Netherlands second’ movie. You can check it above! In this item Lubach tells in Trumps’ words why the Netherlands should be second. This was a reaction to Trumps’ ‘America first’ statement.

2. LOWLANDS CELEBRATES ITS 25TH BIRTHDAY

About 55.000 festival fanatics go to LowLands each year. This year, the festival celebrated its 25th birthday. The festival has multiple stages and had performing artists such as Baloji, Editors, Mumford & Sons, Kovacs and Solange Knowles. It was also possible to swim in the lake after taking a sauna, go to the theatre or participate in a science project.

3. THE DUTCH WOMEN SOCCER TEAM WINS THE EUROPEAN COMPETITION

The Dutch women soccer team beat the Danish team during a very exciting finale in Enschede. The team has orange lionesses as nickname.

4. TWO GIANT PANDA’S ARE MOVING IN THE NETHERLANDS

The two giant panda’s Xing Ya and Wu Wen moved into the ‘Ouwehands Dierenpark’ Zoo on April 14th. The two giant pandas are borrowed from China and made a long trip to our small country. They are currently indulging in Dutch bamboo. This is a good sign, since panda’s are very picky eaters.

5. FROM HERE OPENED ITS DOORS IN OCTOBER
